Limner Portrait

In winter, amateur painters, called "limners" would paint canvasses with bodies and backgrounds, then spend summers visiting clients, filling in faces and adding details. Although this was an 18th century practice, for practical reasons (color!) I chose to use 19th century styles to create the background canvas. 5th graders finished the portraits to accompanay their "Colonial Days" unit. The completed portrait here was done by Tomas.
